From Ottoman Heritage: Balkan

Balkan is another of some ten thousand Turkish words that at some point existed in Serbian language. But, this time it is a foreign word that entered all the other languages in the world. And after all that happened in this region it is hard to believe there is anyone who does not know where that Balkans (i.e. Balkan peninsula) exactly is.
